There's No Box Here

December 28, 2017

2017 has been a busy year, but it’s been good to us. We launched our innovation lab, which has given our team the space to think more collaboratively and focus on ignoring the “box”. This year we have also been working alongside Meritage Homes and Builder Magazine to create an inspiring home that fits the current and future needs of a multigenerational home buyer and their family. This innovative space and challenging home design to address futuristic needs has opened the door for us to bring designs to our markets that inspire.

Laureate Park:

This market housing project is a fresh, unique design focusing on spaces that we typically ignore. Wasted space in the front yard is used for a privacy buffer, a glass garage door is used as an opening to a better flow of indoor and outdoor entertainment space. Where typically a roof would be, a top deck entertainment space utilizes typically wasted space. This award-winning design was one we developed, ignoring the box. It brings something totally new to market housing.

We aren’t afraid of color. We encourage it. We like to utilize multiple materials and colors to emphasize the design and architectural detail. If done correctly, it can make the design positively stand out, and that’s where the curiosity builds.

Designing homes based on the areas they are in is what we do best. One of our more challenging projects this year was Creamery at Alkali Flat because it is located in one of the oldest Sacramento neighborhoods. We created an urban contemporary home that stands out in the neighborhood, but doesn’t overpower the history.

Every housing market is different based on location and the people that reside there. In the Midwest, a heated driveway may be high on the list, while in the south, hurricane proof exteriors are a must. In warmer climates, it’s critical to create a seamless indoor/outdoor living space, which is why we utilize large glass doors that fold into the walls to lead out to a seamless pool. We’ve also made sure to create more living space by creating multiple outdoor entertainment areas.
