Each issue of this magazine develops a unique identity, a thematic thread that somehow links each individual project into the cohesive whole. It’s amazing that 9 unrelated designs manage to spark such a conversation, but it happens every year.
As I review this year’s issue, the constant message of transition rings clearly through every page. Designs feature transitional architecture: Contemporary, forward-thinking, yet reminiscent of tradition and past success. Transitional building forms and communities merge and blend multiple unit types, configurations and functions. Market segments illustrate a transition for our firm – proudly highlighting a commercial project on our cover – and for the residents our designs serve. Some are transitioning out of homelessness, some to new stages of life, some to new ways of living altogether. It’s an incredible collection of design.
Perhaps more than ever, though, turning pages in this year’s issue generates a growing sense of intrigue and excitement. Every transition illustrates a new story: Design innovation, making the old feel new, conquering new market segments. But more than that, every transition illustrates a new solution that celebrates the versatility of this robust and talented design firm. It’s an honor to share them here.
So as I transition from being the person who started this magazine to someone who will receive my copy in the mail like everyone else, I couldn’t be more proud with how far we’ve come. Looking at the future projects we have underway and the team that is here to capture them tells me the legacy of what we started is in great hands. I can’t wait to see the inspiration these future pages will bring.
Cheers to 2023!
