Designing Communal Spaces for the Young Renter
November 11, 2018
When designing for young working professionals who are newly independent, a great communal space is top of the list. These individuals are often either still in college or recently graduated, so the opportunity to socialize is a key factor as they shop rental products.

Entertaining friends in the large, updated kitchen with connected outdoor spaces will help renters feel right at home at
Hamilton Lakes. While their individual units may not have quite enough room to fit all their friends, the communal space is where that will happen! Hamilton Lakes is designed for the working millennial, and renters love using the industrial grade kitchen with attached outdoor living with grills. It also offers seating, a nearby pool, and an attached theater to enjoy with guests.
Student housing is all about communal spaces, for work and for play. U Centre has a large integrated clubhouse with study booths, a more private study or hang out space, and entertainment areas. The gym on the second level overlooks the clubhouse, building a sense of connection between amenities even on different floors. The outdoor area includes a resort-style pool with a TV, fire pit and a grilling station. Every student at Clemson will want to move into U Centre, and we don’t blame them!
Eastern on 10th offers East Carolina University students similar luxuries as U Centre. This garden-style building has a variety of beautiful lounge spaces that are great for group work and a separate, more private area with a kitchenette for the all-nighters before finals. To relax, the students enjoy a large resort-style pool and a grilling station with overhead trellises.
