Regardless of building type or architectural style, glass is a key component to a successful project inside and out. It enables architects to effectively enhance light, nature, safety and more. Take a look at five designs that prove glass is worth the splurge.
SKYLAR
This modern prairie design uses vertical casement windows with a horizontally-focused garage door to modernize the façade and bring as much light as possible into the home. The glass carries into the interiors, with a large foyer and glass railings that keep views open and bright. High glass throughout the two-story living space as well as two sets of fully-retractable sliding glass doors open to the outdoor living space.
MEDLEY AT MIRADA
Medley at Mirada is a stunning community clubhouse that uses ocean-inspired colors for a clean, modern look. A darker, moody blue topped with a beige wall color form the perfect base for the feature tower of oversized windows. This element maximizes light and openness in the core of the lobby.
SERENO CANYON
With attached housing, the party wall reduces window placement opportunities. This can be balanced with thoughtful glass placement everywhere else. This design begins and ends with a focus on glass features, starting at the front door, owners’ entry and garage door. Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the design bring in additional light. The main living space is one large room, so light flows throughout the interior with no barriers. A disappearing corner glass slider is the signature feature at the back of the home. Not only does it bring in tons of light without sacrificing privacy, but it makes for an iconic indoor-outdoor entertainment area.
WINWOOD CLUBHOUSE
This clubhouse is a new addition to the existing Winwood Apartment community. The entry is defined by a two-story element with clerestory windows that bring in natural light. The modern, urban design style features large black windows that offer a pop of contrast while remaining cohesive with the rest of the elevation. In the fitness center, a full-glass overhead door brings in additional light and fresh air.
ALTA LOMA
The design goal for this luxury single family home was to emphasize immaculate views toward outdoor living. The floor plan stretches across the entire lot width so living spaces can fully connect to light and views. Black grid windows alongside the white paneled siding and stucco achieve an elegant modern farmhouse look. Faux window treatments on the front entry of the home add height and interest to the streetscape.
