Five Knolls 55+ Community

Five Knolls is a master planned community located in the scenic hills of Santa Clarita, 30 miles from Los Angeles. The new community includes six distinctive new neighborhoods including an independent senior housing community of 154 homes. Community is the key concept for this portion of the larger development – in addition to the residences, the site will be home to a new senior center and a YMCA.

As part of an agreement with the City, the developer offered a six-acre parcel for much-need community facilities. The existing YMCA and senior center were both busy but outdated social centers that had reached their capacity to serve this growing community. Surrounded by a landscaped greenbelt and linked by a pedestrian pathway, the 39,000-square-foot YMCA and 31,000-square-foot senior center share nearly 400 parking spaces, which will provide ample room for visitors.

Co-locating the new community facilities at Five Knolls, adjacent to the senior housing, creates a synergy of uses that reinforces the intergenerational nature of the entire development, and is particularly supportive of its senior population. The opportunity to engage with the wider community, just a short walk from home, is a positive benefit for senior residents and it is also a plus for the community, who benefits from the contribution of still vital seniors.
